Itinerary for our Milk Route Self-Guided Norway Bike Tour

DAY 1 Arrival Day and Exploration

A scenic transfer from Oslo brings you into the high country of Jotunheimen. Settle in, enjoy dinner, and let the pace slow.

Lodging: Lemonsjøen Fjellstue
Meals: dinner

DAY 2 Valleys and Rivers

Your first ride eases you into the journey, following quiet roads through the Murudalen Valley. You’ll pedal alongside flowing rivers, through forests that feel almost untouched, with plenty of time to stop, take photos, and find your rhythm.

By afternoon, you’ll arrive near the small mountain village of Skåbu, where a warm meal and a comfortable bed are waiting.

Ride: 37.6 miles | elevation gain 2,186 feet
Lodging: Ruten Fjellstue
Meals: breakfast, packed lunch, dinner

DAY 3 Climbing towards the High Country

Today the landscape begins to open. Leaving the forests behind, you ride onto classic Norwegian mountain roads where the views stretch farther with every mile.

Summer farms dot the hillsides, and the sense of space becomes unmistakable. The riding is steady and rewarding — especially on an e-bike — with plenty of natural pauses to soak it all in. You end the day near Lake Bygdin, surrounded by peaks that define this region.

Ride: 37 miles | elevation gain 2,099 feet
Lodging: Bygdin Høifieldshotel
Meals: breakfast, packed lunch, dinner

DAY 4 Discover Glacial Lakes

This day offers a change of pace. A scenic boat crossing on Lake Bygdin gives your legs a break and offers a fresh perspective on the surrounding peaks. A short day of cycling leaves time for an optional hike before cycling.

After disembarking, you’ll ride along shimmering glacial lakes and through dramatic alpine terrain. The distance is shorter, allowing time to explore, relax, and enjoy the quiet beauty of the high country. It’s a day that feels spacious and restorative.

Ride: 14 miles | elevation gain 393 feet
Lodging: Filefjellstuene
Meals: breakfast, packed lunch, dinner

DAY 5 An Alpine Crossing

This is the most demanding ride of the week — and also one of the most memorable. The route climbs steadily through high alpine terrain, with wide views and a real sense of accomplishment building throughout the day.

There’s no rush here. Take your time, and enjoy the satisfaction that comes from earning every view. By the time you arrive at your lodge, you’ll feel tired in the best possible way.

Ride: 33 miles | elevation gain 2,854 feet
Lodging: Syndinstøga
Meals: breakfast, packed lunch, dinner

DAY 6 Cycling Open Landscapes

After yesterday’s effort, today feels lighter and more relaxed. The route passes through open pastoral landscapes where sheep and cattle roam freely and the horizon feels endless.

This is a day to ride gently, enjoy conversation, and let the scenery do the work. The shorter distance leaves time to rest, wander, or simply sit outside and enjoy the stillness of the mountains.

Ride: ~18 miles | elevation gain 885 feet
Lodging: Gomobu Mountain Lodge
Meals: breakfast, packed lunch, dinner

DAY 7 Wide Horizons

Your final ride crosses the broad Stølsvidda plateau, a fitting conclusion to the journey. The terrain feels open and expansive, with long views that invite reflection on the week behind you.

There’s a deep sense of completion as you roll toward Kamben — not because you rushed, but because you moved through this landscape thoughtfully and fully. Tonight’s dinner is a celebration of the journey.

Ride: 18 miles | elevation gain 885 feet
Lodging: Kamben Høyfjellshotell
Meals: breakfast, packed lunch, dinner

DAY 8 Departure

After a final breakfast, you’ll begin your return journey, carrying with you the quiet confidence that comes from a week well spent — riding, resting, and experiencing Norway slowly.

Meals: breakfast, packed lunch

What's Included

Donna M

“This mother-daughter adventure was fantastic. Our seven-day Coastal Maine trip was one of the best trips we’ve ever done. Port Clyde, Camden, Bar Harbor, Vinalhaven — we loved it all.”

Andrew F

“Everything was thoughtfully planned and well executed. From the pre-trip preparation to the final day, the experience felt seamless. We always knew where we were going, where we were staying, and what to expect — which made it easy to relax and enjoy the ride.”

Marsha Walton

Our Summer Feet cycle along the Maine coast was glorious. In early September, we had perfect weather. We cycled along breathtaking views. Then we caught our breath in quaint Maine towns and fishing villages. Each evening our luggage was waiting for us at a charming inn, where we were served breakfast before heading out the next morning. The Summer Feet staff were friendly and efficient. We will hope to plan another Summer Feet trip soon! Pedal The Coast
