You’ll cycle past lighthouses above the Bay of Fundy where you will see some of the world’s most dramatic tides. A candle lit tour of the old burying grounds and historic tales make an unforgettable night. Dine on local favorites and the freshest seafood found anywhere. Enjoy a hearty lunch of favorite comfort foods with Allison at Dempsey Corner Farm. Marvel at the 400-year-old dikes that hold the Fundy tide at bay. Leaders will collect you in Halifax on the first morning of our bicycle tour of Nova Scotia. From here we will transfer to Annapolis Royal, the birthplace of Canada. A short warm-up ride takes us through this charming town. This evening we’ll relax with a welcome cocktail hour, dinner, and candle light tour of the historic graveyard.
Grab your bicycle… Nova Scotia awaits. Today we will cycle out of town towards Victoria Beach. Along the way we stop to see the tidal power plant, and to visit Port Royal which was the 1st French habitation in the New World. Our ride continues along the shores of the Bay of Fundy to the quaint village of Victoria Beach. The enthusiastic can opt for the challenging ride to Delaps Cove. After cycling choose to relax, or to visit the wonderful historic gardens.
This is just a great day of riding. Flat to rolling terrain along quiet country lanes, farms, fields and with luck the west wind at our backs, we ride towards the pleasant college town of Wolfville. The highlight of this day has to be a farm to table lunch at Dempsey Corner Farm. In Wolfville take some time to bike around town and see some of the quaint shops or try a pint of local brew at a sidewalk café.
Our ride takes us Kingsport Beach where we walk along the beach in the shadow of Nova Scotia’s iconic red sand cliffs. Our day leaves plenty of time to explore some of the local wineries, there are 15 in the area, and to sample some prize-winning Nova Scotia white wines. Those looking for a challenge can make the optional climb to Cape Look Off for panoramic views of the valley. For the wine lovers, we’ll take an afternoon drive to visit some of the wineries in the Garpereau Valley. Tonight, we are in for a treat as we dine at Le Caveau, at the renowned Grand Pre Vineyard.
Today we have an optional early morning ride across 4400-year-oldAcadian dykes to Grand Pre national historic site. Then we transfer to the South Shore and take a wonderful sea side ride from the Chester Basin and onto Lunenburg, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and thriving fishing port since 1650.
Enjoy great riding along the sea coast as we visit tiny communities like Rose Bay, Kingsburg and LaHave. We ferry across to continue riding on the LaHave Island dotted with tiny harbours and stunning headlands. Take some time in the late afternoon to walk the old town streets and see the unique architecture in the old sea captains’ homes. With any luck, a tall ship will be tied up right outside our hotel!
The last day comes too soon, but there is still a ride to do. First we’ll role along the shore to the picturesque port at Blue Rocks. The we retrace our ride while bidding farewell to Lunenburg. There is an option to visit Bachman’ Beach or ride into Mahone Bay where we’ll meet for lunch at Joanne’s Market before transferring back to Halifax.
