5 Lighthouse Bike Tour in Portland, Maine Itinerary

Daily Tour

Your ride begins in Portland’s historic Old Port, where cobblestone streets meet working waterfront. After crossing the Casco Bay Bridge, you’ll glide onto a scenic bike path through Ferry Village—one of the area’s most charming neighborhoods—before reaching Bug Light, the small but mighty beacon guarding Portland Harbor.

Here, we pause to take in the views, explore the lighthouse, and learn about the Liberty Ships built nearby during World War II. From there, we continue along the coast to Spring Point Ledge Light, one of the most photographed lighthouses in Maine, and explore nearby Fort Preble, a historic 19th-century coastal fort.

The ride continues through South Portland’s beachfront neighborhoods before following Shore Road, lined with classic seaside homes, toward the crown jewel of Maine lighthouses: Portland Head Light.

This is where we slow down, explore the park, and enjoy lunch—an unforgettable lobster roll from our friends at Bite Into Maine, served with sweeping ocean views. It’s the perfect reward for a beautiful ride.

After plenty of time to wander, photograph, and relax, we pedal back toward downtown Portland, feeling refreshed, accomplished, and fully immersed in coastal Maine.

Participants must be 12 years of age or older and comfortable cycling 10 to 12 miles. Please wear athletic clothing and bring water. Tours depart from the Portland Encyclepedia (located at 6 Commercial Street) at 9:30 am and typically return around 2:30 pm.

Views were amazing. Guides were friendly and personable. Lobster roll was delicious. I upgraded to the ebike (first time riding one) and 10/10 recommend it. I wasn’t looking for a workout. Just wanted to see the sights and enjoy myself. Portland was my favorite stop from a New England cruise.

Five Stars to Rick (our guide) and the folks at Summer Feet Cycling. The ride was perfectly tailored to our group of nine middle aged individuals. The sights were terrific and the lobster role for lunch was the best I have ever eaten. Thanks for making our time in Maine a memorable experience.

Our Summer Feet cycle along the Maine coast was glorious. In early September, we had perfect weather. We cycled along breathtaking views. Then we caught our breath in quaint Maine towns and fishing villages. Each evening our luggage was waiting for us at a charming inn, where we were served breakfast before heading out the next morning. The Summer Feet staff were friendly and efficient. We will hope to plan another Summer Feet trip soon! Pedal The Coast
